Checking a used car for transmission problems
As the bad economy touches more people it will also change their buying habits. One big area that has been affected is the area of car buying. In better times people would just go out and buy a new car.Now if they have a need for another car they are going to have to settle for used. That isn’t a bad thing since used cars do offer more value if you do it right. But if you make a mistake and do it wrong it will end up costing you money.
One of the areas you can do wrong is the transmission.Even though the transmissions they make now are more reliable fixing them is still expensive.Put another way you can break them real easy but they are really expensive to fix. That is a bad combination and I have seen many of my clients suffer from this in my Vista transmission repair company. They go and make a purchase for a used car and end up having to spend much more.
One thing you are able to do is check the vehicle history. You want to ask the seller for any service records. That can show you if it was a rental.Or it will show you if it had been in an accident. So what you want to see is if they have had transmission issues. That is one thing I have all my clients of my La Costa transmission repair shop to do is check the vehicle’s records.
Another good thing for you to look over is to see if the transmission fluid level is good. What you are going to have to do is have the car idle for a little while. Then you do a check with the dipstick into the transmission. If it is low it could be a transmission leak. If the transmission fluid is dirty or black avoid buying that car.It is an indicator of problems with the transmission. The last thing you want to do is buy a used car then end up having to bring it into my Vista auto repair shop to fix the transmission.Do these simple steps and you will end up saving yourself a lot of money.
