Everything that you would want can be found within its center. As you would expect, a city that offers so much is a great place to visit and not somewhere that you could get bored. You could spend a lifetime exploring the place, but if you have just a few days, you can still get a real feel of what the city is about. With so much history to offer, everyone from a history buff to a novice is sure to find something that makes them take pause and appreciate its richness. Say hello to the lifelike wax statues in Madame Tussauds museum on your way to the London Dungeon. Here, you can become acquainted with some of Britain’s most infamous past criminals while you experience the horrors of medieval London. Inside the Tower of London, you will discover the crown jewels and hear tales of prisons made especially for only the most important prisoners. The National Portrait Gallery brings history and art together with exhibits of portraits depicting Britain’s most famous historical figures. Plenty of small museums and art galleries are found in London’s city center that are worth a stop, so make sure to leave time in your schedule to peek your head inside. Oxford Street is the ideal place for the experienced shopper. If shopping is too strenuous, Hyde Park is found nearby to bring the peace and quiet of the country right into the city. Portobello Market is one of many outdoor markets and is located northeast of the park. Nestled inside all of the hustle and bustle are quiet, charming side streets full of London’s past. Here you can find gems such as Covent Gardens. For a bird’s eye view of all that the city center has to offer, you can head over to the London eye. The UK Tourist Industry Is Set For Another Successful Year

The British summertime is fast approaching and as a result many families in the UK are planning their summer holiday.  Last year saw the rise of the ’staycation’ as many families across the country deciding to holiday in the UK rather than go overseas.  The British tourism industry reported that there was an increase in visitors to UK seaside resorts despite the economic downturn.  Initially the great British ’staycation’ resulted in many people staying at home and travelling to local tourist attractions but soon people started looking for different types of affordable accommodation.

Short weekend breaks became very popular with people staying in hotels and serviced apartments.  Although the majority of those visitors were groups of friends and young couples looking to enjoy cities such as Bristol and Bournemouth.  Plenty of Bristol hotels are available to meet the needs of these groups but many UK families want a more rural location for their holiday.

There were a couple of accommodation trends in 2009 that became noticable as it became clear that budget was having an effect on holiday maker’s decisions.  A large number of caravan and mobile home owners traveled to campsites in the South of England because it was cheaper.  Those holiday makers that wanted to stay in something a bit more stable and had a greater budget typically chose to stay in self catering holiday cottages.

Holiday cottages have always been popular in the southern counties of the UK with areas such as Hampshire, Devon and Cornwall proving to be prime locations for tourists to visit.  Each of these counties has much to offer any tourist.  Cornwall is very well known for it’s beautiful beaches, while the New Forest has some wonderful wildlife and Devon has a mix of both.

Many of the popular holiday cottage rental agents reported that last year holiday cottages in Cornwall saw a dramatic increase in the number of rented properties.  The rise in popularity of Cornwall holiday cottages can largely be attributed to the number of young people visiting the region after finishing their exams.  This is because areas like Newquay cater for younger people with the wide range of  extreme sports and night life available to them.

The other more popular destination was the New Forest.  It is generally considered that the popularity of holiday cottages in the New Forest was a result of the number of families choosing to visit the area.  The appeal of the New Forest is likely to be because of the wide variety of outdoor activities, wildlife and beautiful scenery it has to offer.  The New Forest is also well positioned allowing trips to nearby towns, cities and places of interest.  The medieval city of Salisbury is nearby as well as Bournemouth with it’s beautiful beaches.

All the signs are showing that 2010 is likely to be another successful year for the UK tourism industry.  The slow improvements in the economy mean that people still don’t have vast amounts of money to spend and with an increase in strikes amongst airline and railway workers many travellers feel uncertain about heading abroad.  So once again the ’staycation’ could reign supreme in the UK throughout 2010 but only time will tell.

Scotland Vacations: Pitlochry, Perthshire

Scotland is a mixed nation, exquisite rural districts with a huge choice of astonishing spots, country homes, historical buildings, fortified houses and castles compared with towns and cities which features a mass of first class tourist attractions including some of the most highly interesting galleries and museums in the whole of Britain. Below I talk about the incredibly popular Scottish vacation destination of Pitlochry.

Pitlochry is a rather small burgh situated on the banks of the River Tummel in the council area of Perth and Kinross in Scotland. Known widely as the “Gateway To The Highlands” the small town is eminently popular with hill-walkers, ramblers, mountain climbers, hikers and other people of that type. Obviously plenty of other activities of this ilk can be thoroughly enjoyed in the surrounding countryside and you will also discover a supreme list of attractions more than worth a visit. Due to the massive appeal there is an excellent choice of guesthouses and hotels in Pitlochry, with the vast majority of them being situated on the town’s high street.

Pitlochry Attractions To Visit

Blair Castle: Blair Castle, which can be dated back to the 13th century, is the ancient seat of the Earls and Dukes of Atholl. The construction of Blair Castle started in the year 1269, under the guidance of John I Comyn, the Lord of Badenoch, a northern acquaintance of the Earl of Atholl. The Earl was away, fighting in the Crusade’s, when his neighbor began to build of his castle on his land. As soon as the Earl returned home he complained bitterly to the king of Scotland (Alexander III) about his neighbor, and his lands were returned. Rather than destroying the tower than John I Comyn had built, the Earl decided to merge the tower into his own castle. A Great Hall and a number of vaulted chambers were added to the castle over the centuries, by  subsequent Earls. It was the second Duke of Atholl who, in 1740, decided to renovate the castle as a Georgian Mansion.

Killiecrankie Visitor Centre: During the Jacobite period Killiecrankie, not a great distance from Pitlochry, found itself filled with the sounds of battle. The government soldiers were heavily overwhelmed by the Jacobites, under the control of Bonnie Dundee. During the bloody battle one of the escaping soldiers managed to jump across the River Garry, which became known as, Soldier’s Leap. The area about the gorge and pass were a favored place of Queen Victoria. To find out concerning the famous battle you can visit the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre. The center has a selection of otherdisplays and services, which include; a natural history of the area, guided walks and ranger service’s as well as many others.

Pitlochry Hydro-Electric Power Station: A power station is a bizarre location for a visitor center, but this is just where you will find the Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Center. The center is found inside the striking Pitlochry Power Station, and features interactive displays which describe the history of hydro power in Scotland, dating from the 1940’s right up to the present day. The Pitlochry Dam, which was constructed between 1947 and 1951, offers the thrilling opportunity to watch the amazing salmon ladder through three viewing chambers. Inside the visitor center, you will discover interactive and audio-visual presentations which explain this natural phenomenon. The turbine hall of Pitlochry Hydro-Electric Power Station can also be seen from within the Visitor Center.

If you are thinking about taking a vacation in Scotland based in Pitlochry then you can find Pitlochry bed and breakfast online by using the search term “Pitlochry hotel accommodation” or “Pitlochry bed and breakfast” into your favorite search engine (the inverted commas can help greatly).

Taking A Vacation In Cruz Bay, U.S. Virgin Islands

Cruz Bay has a distinctive atmosphere that sets it apart from other towns in the U.S. Virgin Islands, which is a perfect combination of contemporary  attitudes and West Indian tradition. The locals who live their permanently are supplemented by a cosmopolitan mix of predominantly European and American tourists, many of whom, drawn in by the exotic, yet comfortably familiar Cruz Bay, visit there every year.

It is home to most of the Island’s restaurants, bars, and stores, and pretty much all visitors to St. Johns spend at least a little time there. Yet, despite being the St. John’s center of commerce, it is nearer to being quiet than it is to being busy. The pace of life there is considerably slower than in a U.S. coastal town, and tourists cannot help but be influenced by the Cruz Bay vibe, making it easy to forget about the troubles and problems they have left behind them at home.

If you fancy a day or two away from the multitude of beautiful, secluded, scenic beaches that are located just 5-20 minutes away from Cruz Bay, then you can visit the spectacular Virgin Islands National Park, rent a jeep and ride around the Island, or browse the boutique shops that line the alleys and backstreets of the town. You could also partake in some of the many water sports activities available. Scuba diving tours tours to offshore reefs are very popular, as are jet skiing and parasailing.

Whatever you choose to do with your days, you can be sure that the weather will not be a hindrance to you, as the weather in Cruz Bay ranges is nearly always excellent. Air temperatures range from 80-90 degrees during winter months to 80-95 degrees during the summer, and water temperatures are 75-80 degrees in winter and 80-85 degrees in summer. Rain is infrequent, so leave your umbrella behind and stock up on sunscreen.

Australia in focus – Relaxation central

The Gold Coast in Australia is known as the day spa & massage capital of Australia. With over one hundred massage and day spa providers, the Gold Coast is home to some of the best companies for relaxation beauty and massage treatments in Australia. These vary widely in style and structure.

For instance – many of the larger hotels will have day spas attached, including steam rooms, saunas, spas and a wide variety of massage treatments. These are often more expensive than other companies but do boast the luxury of often plush surroundings and treatments like float tanks, where the client’s body is suspended in high salt water in a darkened tank, designed to relax and soothe all the senses.

Day spas also can offer a variety of massages not otherwise available on the Gold Coast, such as hot stone, pregnancy and Indian Head Massage. There are also many small businesses that offer Gold Coast massage services. These are usually independent therapists that work in their local region, sometimes unqualified and uninsured. Usually they are cheaper than the larger day spas but offer a more limited range of services.

These massage therapists usually offer remedial or relaxation Swedish massage treatments, often out of smaller rooms attached to a hair dressers or beauty salon. An excellent alternative to these are mobile Gold Coast massage therapists like Ripple, who offer a wide range of day spa treatments to clients in the privacy of their hotel rooms.

Ripple Massage’s website has much information on Gold Coast massage therapy and is the one mobile massage therapy business in Australia that also offers specialised pregnancy massage to its clients.

Some companies only offer the standard one hour Swedish or Remedial massage treatments in the Gold Coast region. However Ripple Gold Coast Massage is a lot different in that it offers styles of massage you do not find elsewhere in Australia, such as chocolate, Vietnamese Four-Hands, Russian and Sea Shell massage.

The Gold Coast has long been known as a region for relaxation, so it is not surprising that massage and day spa is popular here. The Gold Coast was a fabulously popular holiday destination for servicemen returning from World War II. In the 1950’s the Gold Coast Region had grown and the 1960’s and 1970’s saw the developers undertake a lot of high rise development.

Surfers Paradise was also known for its ‘Meter Maids’ in gold bikinis who fed parking meters by the beach to prevent holiday makers from getting parking fines. The hi-rise boom continued right through the 1970s and it became Australia’s premier family holiday destination. It was then that the day spas started to be built, along with the world-famouse theme parks and it became well known for its massage treatments.

Today the Gold Coast is still one of Australia’s favourite holiday destinations for families looking to visit the theme parks, escape to the beach and indulge in some relaxation day spa treatments.

Go back in time on your next holiday!

One place in this world that you must visit before it’s too late is Cuba. This is by far one of the most unique and beautiful countries in the world. This world is considered that of times gone by, people travel to Cuba to see the 60’s over again.

Cuba is stuck in the late 60’s, early 70’s. You wont see many modern cars in Cuba, in-fact you will find some very old ones everywhere. Tourism is becoming a big money spinner in this country. Cuba holidays offer many people all kinds of activities and new experiences. The bars and restaurants are unique and very friendly, and the flamenco dancing is original and good fun. Cuba is a country just stuck back in the place, so visit to see the world of yesterday. This is the location for many diverse cultures and some truly brilliant people. There is a massive amount for any tourist to do.

Now for the holiday maker who likes a bit of sea sun and sand, well you have come to the right place. Cuba is guaranteed to give you all of this. You can see that some of the beaches are amazing, and the hotels keep them clean. Just make sure that you book a stay in one of the hotels that is by the beach and they will give you free access to the private beach. Yo wont be disappointed at the condition of the rooms, the best way to describe them is; luxurious. Everything is very clean and well kept; the general service is prompt and friendly. I think a lot of people get the impression that Cuba is a volatile place; the simple truth is that because we don’t have much press coverage in over here, we are drawn into thinking of it in certain ways.

If you are considering a holiday this year then give Cuba a go, the only other holidays I would recommend are Egypt holidays, this is because they still maintain a very powerful and interesting history.

Sustainable Tourism

For sustainable tourism, we need to protect the cultural environment as well as the natural environment.  We need to respect local cultures and ways of life, and contribute positively to local communities.

The potential negative effects of tourism are both local and global… but by practicing green tourism, the harm we cause will be minimized.

If we’re not careful, we’ll degrade the environment and the cultures we travel to see. What ever your destination, the locals depend on toursim profits to support their economy.  If you go someplace because there are wonderful native handicrafts, you need to buy some of those handicrafts from locals, so they get the money.

If you’re visiting a national park, you need to employ locals as guides so they will continue to value and protect the park.  Those are the kinds of things that make for sustainable tourism.

Here are some more things to think about when choosing a hotel, a tour group or activity…..

Do local citizens run and own the hotel so profits benefit the local community? At least the staff should be local citizens?

How does the hotel contribute to the local community?  Do they buy local produce for their restaurant? Are the gift shop souvenirs made locally?

If you’re taking a tour, travel with a tour operator who is environmentally responsible.  Smaller group sizes make less of an impact… and make for a more enjoyable tour for you!

Is the group lead by a local guide?  Does the tour company contribute to the local community in some way?  To have sustainable tourism, the local community needs to benefit; not just some global tour company.

When hiking, stay on marked trails.  Maintain safe distances from any wildlife you encounter… for your safety AND for theirs.  “Leave only footprints”… carry your trash out or use trash bins.

If you’re snorkeling or diving, don’t touch the coral. It is easy to stir up sediment or damage corals with your fins, so pay close attention.  Either way you can damage the reef’s fragile ecosystem… and most reefs are in trouble now, so they need all of our help.

Try to buy local products…  You’ll support the local economy… and we all need that now no matter what country you’re visiting.  Foods will be fresher, give you a taste of local cuisine and save fuel because they haven’t traveled half way around the world… only YOU have!  Fewer imported products will be needed.

Don’t buy souvenirs or other products made from endangered animals or plants.  You probably can’t get it through customs, and if you believe in sustainable tourism, you don’t want to contribute to the extinction of another species!

Treat locals with respect. You are traveling to learn about local cultures!Know several words… at least hello, good-bye and thank you.  Be open to our cultural differences.  Read up on the area you’ll be visiting so you’ll know how to dress so you don’t offend anyone.  Check to see if there are any behaviors or gestures that will offend your hosts.

Rejoice in our positive differences.  Support them, and you’ll be contributing to sustainable tourism.

Canada Use Scene Shot In Northumberland, England For Their Tourism Film

A promotional video that shows a couple of kids playing on a beach next to some open water in Canada has been found to be a fake which was in fact shot in the UK.

The video was included in a package commissioned by the tourist board in Alberta to help promote and boast visitor numbers. It was intended to show the best features of the Alberta province in Canada and increase levels of Canada holidays in the region. However, when Canadian Peter Bailey saw the video and looked into taking his boat there, he realised it was a fake. He initially believed he was seeing images of one of the regions huge lakes but when he looked a little deeper, it turned out to be the North Sea. armed with the knowledge that Alverta was a landlocked region and wad a good 350 miles from any seas, Bailey sent his findings of the the relevant people.
Peter alerted the Northumberland Tourism Board of the issue and they saw the funny side. “ we think it’s quite humorous – the fact that Canadians want to present one of their landlocked areas as having a coastline” said Sheelagh Caygill. Most of the Northumberland public were not upset but rather flattered about it. Saying that it’s great that Canada views this part of the world beautiful enough to use as their own.

Bailey also took his findings to officials in Ottawa and they took more of a defensive stance. It was used by us simply to “symbolise the fact Albertans are a worldly people” stated a spokesman.Tom Olson who looks after media relations for the Prime Minister suggested “There’s no attempt to mislead here. The images were utilised because they represented the tone and mood that we were after.”

Spokesman have stated that although the English part of the film will remain, there is now a footer note included that credits the UK tourist board. The embarrassment caused to the travel board in Canada has led them to go over past video releases to check for continuity. Among other promotional works that Canada has recently released include one for Alaskan cruises and there will surely be people keeping an keen eye out for passing flamingos in the Alaskan cruises video
